Getting There

The logically most popular means by which international travelers arrive in Puerto Carrillo is through Liberia's Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR). From the airport, it is a scenic drive of approximately two hours to El Sueño Tropical Hotel. Most logical and popular choice among tourists: rent a car at the airport. This then affords the absolutely necessary freedom to properly enjoy, at one's own pace, the many and varied beaches, waterfalls, and nature reserves of the Nicoya Peninsula.

For non-drivers, shared or private shuttle service makes the best and easiest alternative. Tropical Tours Shuttles or Interbus are among reputable companies running daily services from Liberia Airport straight to Carrillo and Sámara area. Faster and more comfortable than the public bus which they overtake on the road, these shuttles also provide a direct door-to-door service to your hotel.

The public bus is the cheapest option but also the longest and most complicated. This involves taking a first bus from the airport area to the city of Nicoya. From the main bus terminal in Nicoya, you would then need to transfer to a second, local bus that makes the final journey to Puerto Carrillo. This entire process can take over four hours and is quite difficult with luggage which makes a rental car or shuttle highly preferred for an easy and pleasant start to your holiday.
